I like to read poetry. Anyone close to me has probably experienced me reading a poem or two (and getting emotional doing it). I love Billy Collins (Poet Laureate of the United States 2001-2003), also Joyce Sutphen (Poet Laureate of Minnesota), both of whom write what I consider everyday poetry. Easy to understand, touching, some hitting the bull’s-eye. All that bringing me to the point of today’s post. WordPress is holding a two-week poetry course and I’m trying it. I’ve never considered myself a poet, but have often thought – I should write that down!
Their first assignment is a haiku. I am more wordy than what haiku asks . . . The prompt was water and using a simile if I want. Thankfully, I can put a photo in to at least make the haiku palatable.
life-giving elusive
flowing away toward city
quenching thirsts and fires
