Hiking the Sierras, McGee Creek

So much hiking, so few posts published! The hike to McGee Creek took place in late June on a very hot day. When I arrived at the trailhead, a pack train was just returning from the trip up the valley to McGee Creek.

The hike was before the recent spate of thunderstorms in the Eastern Sierras, it was very dry and many wildflowers had already bloomed.

There was very little to no shade on this trail, sweat was dripping and water gulping was going on.

Even though it was dry, this beautiful Sego Lily was blooming near where I turned back.

There was a bee nestled in the bottom, either satiated with pollen or napping or dead – not sure which. I wonder what made the neat Queen of Hearts shadow on the lily?

A rattlesnake was seen earlier by another hiker at this spring. He's gone now thankfully.

Icy water and a snack are waiting in the car. The next time I hike McGee Creek, it will be in the fall when it’s cooler!

    Great photos Barb. Did you see the Queen of hearts shadow when you took the pic or notice it afterwards?

      Afterwards! It’s so bright here, I cannot see anything well when I’m out shooting, some nice surprises happen on the computer!
